taking it easy...

Today was a pretty enventful day, with many eventful days to follow, and that is a good thing...

I talked to the doctor about why my toes were turning purple

we rode the trolley at the outlets


I got a really cute picture of my baby

and attempted to get a cute picture of me and 

Jude, but that did not work out.

creative and adaptable

I think my children were inspired when they stumbled upon my banana lotus bloom downstairs, after the great banana harvest in this post.

Last night after the children went to bed I stumbled upon this...

Please excuse the spotted floor....this IS a house that has 4 wee ones...


I think it's neat to see what the children are coming up to occupy their time when they do not have the comforts of their toys. An absent of toys, in some instances, could be good for a child for a time (provided there are other raw materials (like bottled water bottles above) to develop their creativity. Creativity is a huge asset  in life, as we all know living sometimes requires an extraordinary amount of it.

On the note of toys, we do still have this thing here...

  My emerging baby's motor skills require some boundaries to keep him out of wires and things. I had to take the basket out to wash it, but still needed to keep him safe this A.M. He is in the mega saucer being content standing in the center.

no, he is not in the potty, he is sitting in magasuser with no basket looking like a little cutie.
My baby is being adaptable to the circumstances that life has presented him, another great virtue to have.

I looked up both words (creative and adaptable) in the thesaurus to get a better understanding...

Creative--clever cool, demiurgic, deviceful, fertile, formative, gifted, hip, ingenious, innovational, innovative, innovatory, inspired, inventive, leading-edge, original, originative, productive, prolific, stimulating, visionary, way out.
(Is anyone else suprised the fertile is in that list? no wonder I have so many children) 

Adaptable-- adjustable, all around, alterable, can-do, changeable, compliant, conformable, convertible, ductile, easy-going, flexible, hanging loose, malleable, modifiable, moldable, plastic, pliable, pliant, resilient, supple, switch-hitting, tractable, variable, versatile

Interesting, right? I think if we have  both of these virtues working in our life, rooted in the Lord (that is the giver of these gifts) We will be able to weather the many storms of life with grace, and a smile...

farewell old blue smokey....

okay, this blog is in reference to our van, which is not really old (well it is getting up there..a 99), not really blue (more of a teal color), and not really smokey, but it was still a catchy title....no??

Anyways, this van is our trusty 1999 Plymouth voyager
I know what you are thinking, this van does not look so bad, but this picture is it's good side....

This van was given to us as a gift from his parents on our wedding day....

It saw us through both of our college days in Philadelphia (though we mainly relied on the subway, and city bus)


You saw as through the lovely days in the sweet sunny south...

And you even crossed the entire mainland and ocean to meet us in Hawaii


yes, you have been a trusty friend indeed


So, teal mini, it is time that you are put out to pasture. You deserve it. You have survived being hit by a deer (all banged up on side not shown in above pic) in West Virginia. You have survived driving and parking in filthydelphia  Philadelphia. You  faithfully drove my husband to and from work along the live oak lined roads of South Carolina. You took the treacherous voyage across great blue sea, to meet us on a tiny island in the middle of the pacific.

I can not think of any better way to spend your days then swaying in a hammock over looking the shore, drinking coconut milk, and learning new hula to add to your repertoire of dance moves


You are being retired as a pay it forward car of the islands. I hope will meet military families needs of the future (not space future, but more of an immediate type of future)
Since we are only able to bring one car overseas on the military $$, you are going to be the great blue hope of stress relief to families who can not manage without two cars.  I know you will serve your duties well
So,  again I say farewell old blue smokey, may you bask in the Hawaiian sunset for many a night to come...

mia familia....

I wanted to share these vintage photographs of my family. They are very sacred to me, and are copyrighted, so please do not use them in other mediums..( I don't like not sharing things, but like I said, they are sacred to me)
I am so grateful to have a grandmother who rescued many of these, and a grandfather who is computer savvy, and could scan them onto a disk and mail them to me.

I hope you truly love these, I love vintage photographs, but when they are my own ancestors...ahh, there is no words...

New Tresury currated...I had fun with this one~ I love the 1920's!

 I have always been inspired by the roaring 20's and the energy of that time. The style was elegant, classy, and fun. I am not so into the rebellious part, but the style part....yes! :-)))

happiness is........

One of these things in your OWN house...As soon as the maintenance man wheeled in those blessed machines in my door I knew we were going to be BFF's...



Maintance brought them in so we can use for the final two weeks of our stay (and they were brand new)

yes, my friends, that is dirty clothes in a machine that will get them clean....the simple things

there is something better than a washer and dryer though---flowers that  someone left at our doorstep this morning (sitting on top of the new  washer and dryer)
